Robert "Mr. Bob" Cummings

Teacher of Excellence
Bob first thought of becoming a teacher was when he was a Platoon Leader in Vietnam. He is a teacher by choice not chance! Bob has held that conviction and steadfastly pursued a teaching career in agriculture education. Bob began teaching in 1973 at Templeton H.S., making home visits to each student, a practice he carried on throughout his teaching career. In 1981, Bob began his 23 years at Shandon. He helped improve facilities by building green houses and livestock barns, remodeling the mechanic shop, and putting in a triple-wide classroom with computers and a lab area. Bob helped coordinate New Professionals Conference for 11 years and the statewide Student Teacher Conference for nine years. As a fair volunteer Bob has written, administrated and scored The Livestock Achievement Test. In 2001 Bob was named San Luis Obispo County Teacher of the Year. Bob was a CATA member for 38 years. Within that time, Bob held several leadership positions where he served three terms in the sectional chair, chaired state adult and youth activities, chaired the State Livestock Committee for 13 years, and chaired the CATA Summer Ag Skills for 11 years. In addition, Bob was a recreation consultant in volleyball for 11 years, a consultant for the CATA Ranch Breakfast for five years, and was a CATA Fair Show Committee member. Bob also supervised, counseled, monitored, and submitted evaluations for 30 student teachers, 12 of which are still teaching. |

Christine Dickson

Teacher of Excellence
Christine started her teaching tenure career in 1976 at Arvin High School and ended her tenure in 2009 after starting up the North High School Bakersfield program. Christine was active in the CATA throughout the state levels and nationally. At the state level, she was a representative to the BOARS committee to defend Ag Biology as an alternative college prep and graduation requirement. She wrote and published a binder of agriculture labs that used microscopes and distributed one to every high school agriculture program in California. Christine also represented agriculture as an appointee of Governors Deukmejian and Wilson on the State Council of Vocational Education serving as their President 8 of her 12 years on the council. At the national level, Christine took students to the National FFA Convention with their agriscience boards to exhibit and induce the National FFA to adopt a national level competition. She extended her service nationally with various agriscience workshops and presentations.
